Help Ron Score A Kidney Donor

Our buddy Ron has a huge heart…but he needs help finding his kidney donor.

The medicine prescribed by his doctors to manage his bipolar condition damaged his kidneys to the point that he’s now starting dialysis. Those who know Ron love him. We sure do. This website hopes to give you a glimpse of the brother and friend we’ve known for 40 yrs. We’ve got an EASY ASK of you…please use the buttons below to share Ron’s story with your social network. We’re hoping that between us all we can find his donor.

Ron’s already part of your community if you:

Serve mental health patients

Ron turned the lemons of his bipolar condition into lemonade by serving as a Peer Mentor in mental health facilities in New England and now in Florida.

Love your alma mater

Ron is proud graduate of SMU. He attended during the glory days of the “Pony Express” backfield of Eric Dickerson and Craig James. In fact, the picture above is from the 1983 Cotton Bowl victory over Dan Marino’s Pittsburgh Panthers, capping off an undefeated season. Ron was the “mic man” and was know to lead the entire student section in a Bill Murray rendition of “There she was just a walking down the street”.

Own a fantasy football team

Ron is a founding member of one of the oldest continuously operating fantasy football leagues in existence. Established in 1980, the league is the very first to hold its draft at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

Honor Navy vets

Ron is especially proud of his late father, who served in the U.S, Navy during WWII in the South Pacific, where he survived his ship being sunk after enemy attack.

Are a Springsteen devotee

Chrome-wheeled, fuel injected and stepping out over the line”, “the Rangers had a homecoming, in Harlem late last night”, “because the record company Rosie, just gave me a big advance” & “come take my hand, we’re riding out tonight to case the promise land”. If those lyrics swell up emotion in you, then you and Ron are cut from the same cloth.

Live in Florida

While Ron has called the East Coast home for many years, he currently hangs his hat in the Sunshine State.

Pledged a fraternity or sorority

Ron is a proud alumni of the Gamma Sigma Chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha. Most of us met Ron there.

Quote movie lines

Caddyshack, Stripes & Animal House….it’s the “big three” of the movie quote standards and Ron takes a back seat to no one on keeping them alive. “Over?, was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?”

We hope you agree that Ron is a great friend to have and has a lot more to give.

Is it Safe To Donate A Kidney?

If you are generally healthy and have good kidney function, the odds are extremely high that donating a kidney would be a safe process and that your body would rapidly adjust to life with one kidney. But the decision to save a life in this manner must be made soberly, mindful that this is major surgery with some real risks. You won’t do this without your doctor agreeing that the benefits are worth the risks.

Would I Qualify to Donate A Kidney?

You would probably qualify if:

  • You are at least 18 years of age.

  • You are generally healthy and in good physical condition, with a BMI of less than 30.

  • You have strong kidney function — a GFR generally higher than 90 and in no case less than 60.

  • You have no history of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, HIV, hepatitis or kidney stones.

  • You have sound mental health
